The Unsung Hero of Indian Cricket [ Ajit Agarkar ]

January 15, 2010 at 4:12 am 107 comments

Well, there are lot of cricketers, who came in made an early inroads, got stardoms and got disappeared, it’s like a Cinderella’s fairytale in Indian cricket.

Well we are not talking about the Uttapa’s or Rohit sharma’s or Ishant sharma’s. I am talking about Ajit Agarkar, Man who has the record of fastest 50 scored by an Indian. Man who has the 2nd fastest 50 wickets in ODI’s. He has uncanny ability of taking lot of wickets, by conceding runs. But it unfair to say only he concede lot of runs, you should keep him out of Indian team. Look at Ishant sharma kind of phase he is in within 1 year of international cricket, whenever he comes and bowl to a batsmen it looks like you are guaranteed to see atleast 2-3 boundaries in that over.

Ajit Agarkar is the totally forgotten by Indian selectors now, then focusing on youth rather than the experienced guy like agarkar, who has 288 ODI wickets to his name more than Kapil dev I guess. His encomy was on higher times at those times, but 6 an over is almost unacceptable and team chase down 300 plus targets within no time.

Ajit has a good bouncers which can surprise batsmen along with his pace. Man he is 30+ still bowls speeds better than Ishant’s or any other bowler in the Indian circit now.

He is very good middle lower down batsmen and got a ability to make runs and he showed that in many occasion, one in Lords test that Indian lost, there he scored a century , even great little Sachin tendulkar deprived of. He scored a match winning innings on hell lot of occasions even in ranji’s.

How can we forget his match winning bowling performance in Sydney test where he picked 6 Aussies wickets, where the wicket was conducive for Spin bowling

Look at Zaheer he become wiser by age. Earlier he used to bowl all over the place but now he is 30+ and form of his life.

Indian selectors must give him a last chance, when they can give Rahul a chance why can’t Ajit. Look at the way he performed in the Ranji throphy final with 7 wicket haul.

All the best Ajit, I still feel you have a guts to make it to Indian team

I completely agree with the above article. Ajit was and is the only indian bowler who can bowl accurate yorkers and can mix them up with spicy bouncers.

Yes, selectors should pick him for up-coming season. He is the only Indian bowler, who deliver the ball above +142 speed. He can deliver the ball with swing, bouncer & yorker. He will bowl, bat & field,he will useful for the team even in one area, from above three.

Now a bowler like agarkar can be choosen for indian team. All says his economy rate is high. But when compare with the current bowlers like sreesanth, ishanth, nehra u wil get answer. Sreesanth’s career economy rate is 5.95 while agarkar’s is 5.10. So its unfair to a bowler who picks wickets regularly.the selectors should select him to complete his 300 mark.

I totally agree with you. Selectors should give him his last chance. He is a bowler of class. Taking 288 wickets is not a job of any chap. he has something in him. Wat lacks in him is confidence that selectors have to provide him.

Here is the list of 7 bowlers. You can see who is good.

In order Match wkt Avg Eco
    M Wkt Avg Eco
    Ishanth 41 56 32 5.81
    Nehra 99 130 31 5.11
    Kumar 36 41 35 5.14
    Sree 49 68 34 6.03
    Zaheer171 235 29 4.9
    Agarkar191 288 27 5.07
    Pathan 107 152 29 5.25

From the above you can see sreesanth,Nehra,Ishanth are absolute wastes for indian team.
Indian pace attack is good when Zaheer,Agarkar and Pathan. We can select Praveen too throug an experienced and youth pace attack india get.

    Here the guys batting performance
    order of highest runs
    Run Avg Strike
    rate

    Run avg SR
    Pathan 1368 22.8 77.6
    Agarkar1269 14.5 80
    Zaheer 719 13.0 76
    Kumar 201 16.7 89.7
    Nehra 124 7.7 68.5
    Sree 40 4 34.7
    Ishanth 36 6 42

Sreesanth and ishanth not get runs to their match numbers. Nehra luk hw much runs frm 99 matches. Look the strike rates. If india were in a position 250/7 it will be 250 all out… Thats what these provides. India want Irfan Agarkar back.

Ajit Agarkar has the capabilities to pick wickets even though his economy rate is, higher than other bowlers, almost 6 an over. But still I feel he has to be given at least one chance. He is a good bowler and sometimes batsman too. So, as far as I am concerned, he should play in the coming ODIs. Best of luck Ajit, I am in the support of yours. All supporters of yours will see you playing in upcoming ODIs. I believe in cricket and believe in you. So, I request to all Ajit’s supporters to send lots of mail in favor of Ajit Agarkar so that he can be seen by all indian in upcoming ODI matches. Very very thanks to all….

Yes no doubt that Ajit, a great Mumbai all rounder ,should be given the chance and not the last chance..as he is capable of good bowling, lower order batting and what we are all missing is fielding. He is a good fielder too, very much better than Nehra,Ishant….
All the best Ajit..hope we all see you one day again delivering your best services for our Indian Cricket.

    Hi guys

I am also agarkars diehard fan.He is an “indian ambrose”.
he is one of the ost feared fast bowlers of his era. He together with Debasis mohanty formed a lethal fast bowling combination. They both always reminded me of legendary walsh and ambrose. We always have to respect our old heroes……Do you guys know Rajesh Chauhan top class spinner…..Ihe was indians answer to shane warne during the time he was playing

Ajit is the only Indian bowler with reverse swing abilities. He was never nurtured properly by any of the skippers accept Azharuddin. Azhar gave ajit an open road to bowl quick and pick up wickets, same as imrankhan and wasim akram did for the pakistani pacers. None of the skippers and now the selectors have shown trust on ajit and given him a continous chance to play with stability. I wish he had a stable career, he could have delivered better. Or else if he was with any other cricketing nation, he would have been way ahead

Ajit was a very good bowler – but never groomed properly – In his early days he used to bowl very freely – with pace and lot of reverse swing – but his economy rate was a worry and lot of people started troubling him – The result was that he lost pace and things didnt work for him. I dont think if he come back he could make much difference as the pressure may take a toll on him, however if he had been groomed properly that wicket table would have been easly around 350. Also he bowled in an era when indian fielding was very bad. I have seen many of his slip catches were dropped. We lost a efficient bowler in Ajit who could have broken many records…

Ajit has produced a few deliveries in international cricket that has left the batsmen totally bamboozled. He can really bowl some magic deliveries that the batsmen has no answer for. Even i am also his big fan.

Knowing him personally i guess he is the one who does nt even bother abt the captain of Mumbai/ India.. i dnt think he wud even look a ur stupid face

Oh! India is missing this man in England. BCCI have messed up careers of talented people like him. Easily the fastest we had – what a shame.

My hunch says Ajit Agarkar will get a last chance very soon. He was really a phenomenon with both ball and bat. With Zaheer injured, he should have been given a chance instead of R.P. Singh in the England-India Test Series. May God give him a chance in the Australia series.

i think , now selectors cant select ajit. the problem is, if he performes well-then? they dont have reason y he was not picked when zaheer was injured, shree and ishant were totally out of form and rp -whats to say about him. even gavasker told that y he was in squad

Ajith Agakar was the master bowler of fast bowling of indian cricket team. The ajith agakar was the master fast bowler indian cricket team, also like c.vass for srilanka, s.akthar for pakisthan, s.pollock for south africa, g.magrath for australia, j.anderson for england ………………and also like Ajith agakar for INDIA. I Wishing him to get back soon to indian cricket team. Now, a days Indian cricket team was totally runing for best fast bowler for indian cricket team. AJITH AGAKAR The Master bowler returns back to stand straight indian cricket team in fast bowling. god bless him.

Here is the list of 7 bowlers. You can see who is good.

In order Match wkt Avg Eco
    M Wkt Avg Eco
    Ishanth 41 56 32 5.81
    Nehra 99 130 31 5.11
    Kumar 36 41 35 5.14
    Sree 49 68 34 6.03
    Zaheer171 235 29 4.9
    Agarkar191 288 27 5.07
    Pathan 107 152 29 5.25

From the above you can see sreesanth,Nehra,Ishanth are absolute wastes for indian team.
Indian pace attack is good when Zaheer,Agarkar and Pathan. We can select Praveen too throug an experienced and youth pace attack india get.

Indian selectors are undoubtedly bloody corrupted… because the man (cricketer) who has world record in his career and 288 one day wickets in just 191 matches.. what suppose to proved by him till now.. he is undoubtedly the best Indian one day fast bowler up till.. if any body want to check the Indian cricket history.. he was dropped in 2007 from squad without any bloody reason. he is certainly the only man can break highest wicket taker record of one day but he is bad victim/hunt of Indian Dirty Politics or those who couldn’t do any thing for cricket but still want to fill their bloody bags.. all those who involved to drop ajit agarkar from one day squad are bloody dirty worms of gutter (sadela nala ke kide) who are just weaken our Indian cricket….

i totally agree with the above article…….nowadays selectors are going more towards the young bowlers….umesh yadav is the one who can bowl upto the mark of 145……..previously ajit agarkar was the one who used to bowl at speed of 145 or above for indian team…….the advantage for selecting agarkar is that he can play succesfull knock in the lower order and the disadvantage with agarkar is that he concedes too many runs….but the selectors must go for ajit agarkar……ALL THE VERY BEST AGARKAR…..

WATS wrong with Indian selectors??? They should bring in the experienced guys to the team, instead of including new comers. New comers should be given chance only with low ranking teams. While playing with high ranked team the experienced hand is better. They should bring in ajith 2 the team. At least give him a chance to retire decently.

I’m huge fan of agarkar. Im hoping that he would make a come back in the international. He can do it only if he takes the opportunities in IPL & domestic seriously. I wish him all the best & waiting for my once faviourite cricketer to see him play on television.

HE IS A WICKET TAKING BOWLER…DONT SAY HIS ECNOMY IS HIGH.IF WE COMPARE WITH CURRENT BOWLER HIS ECNOMY IS GOOD….HIS SPEED IS ALSO BETTER THAN OTHERS……….SELECTERS ARE SPOLING HIS CAREEER…..GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO COMPLETE 300 WICKETS TO HIS NAME…..HE IS A VERY GOOD FEALDSMEN TOO…….REALLY UNFAIR FOR NOT PICKING HIM I THE TEAM………

No Doubt regarding Ajit, only thing now matters that he is from Mumbai and at present we all know how selectors and Dhoni is against Mumbai and Maharashtra..even if any one fails he still has to be from North India…which is utterly shameful for Indian cricket. We may be winning some matches now..but still Team is surely missing Agarkar…
